What to Know about Being Notified in Case of an Emergency in Grand County

What Happens When a Public Notification Call Goes Out?

emergency dispatcherWhen the emergency dispatcher is told during an emergency that a public notification call needs to be made, then they use the system to select a geographic area on a map and the message that needs to be sent to those people inside that area. Then the “call” is made to all the phone numbers inside the selected area. This can take some time as every number is called, rings, is picked up and the message transmitted.

Homes & Businesses with Landline

get notifications on your phoneFor those homes and businesses with a traditional land line phone – In the event of an emergency such as flood, wildfire or some other emergency requiring community notification then the traditional public notification system will be used. This system only works for traditional phone numbers and phone lines (from Century Link, Qwest, etc…) not cell phones and not VOIP (Voice Over IP such as Vonage, Magic Jack, NetTalk, Ooma, etc…) There is no registration required as that was all taken care of when you signed up for the phone service. The system relies on the physical address information provided when you signed up.

Homes & Businesses without a Landline – CodeRED

CodeRED system works for ANY phone number, including cell, VOIP and land line. CLICK HERE to go to the register for CodeRED for emergencies in Grand County Colorado ONLY.

How Do I Use CodeRed if I am Only Visiting?

codered logo - click to sign upDownload the CodeRED app for Android or iPhone. The app taps into the national CodeRED Emergency Notification System and alerts subscribers of public safety concerns no matter where you are in the Country. Additionally, national organizations used by public safety officials and police departments may utilize the system to send messages to targeted geographic areas. Not every state or county uses CodeRED, so always check with the local fire, police departments or the local Office of Emergency management to find out how to receive public safety alerts.

Kitchen Hood Replacement Program a Success!!

kitchen fire burn damage

Over the last decade, our local restaurants were faced with the financial burden of updating their kitchen fire suppression systems to meet changing fire safety standards. East Grand Fire wanted to help lessen this costly expense for our local restaurants so thus created the Commercial Kitchen Safety Incentive Program. This provided up to a $500.00 grant to help the with required replacement of antiquated kitchen hood fire suppression systems in the East Grand Fire Protection District.

We are pleased to say that, to date, East Grand Fire was able to help 11 establishments with the required upgrade to their hood systems. The project is now being completed and East Grand Fire is very happy to have been able to be a part of this important life safety and property preservation enhancing project for our community.
