Open Burn Season
Burn season usually runs from November through March once enough season-long snow has accumulated. Burning is only allowed on approved days with favorable air quality and sufficient snow on the ground.
Permit Requirements
A permit is required for piles larger than 3 feet wide and 2 feet high. Private permits cost $20 and commercial permits cost $100. After applying, piles are inspected, and burners must call 970-887-0745 each day they want to burn to confirm it is a burn day.
Regulations
Allowed materials include approved slash or yard debris piles, if local HOA or town rules also allow it. Prohibited materials include trash, plastics, treated wood, tires, hazardous materials, construction debris, and burn barrels, because they create toxic pollution and health hazards.
