Current Fire Restrictions
STAGE 2 Fire Restrictions
Effective June 26, 2026, Grand County is under Stage Two Fire Restrictions. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with local Fire Districts and Federal Partners, consistently monitors fire conditions and the necessity of fire restrictions on a regular basis. The decisions surrounding fire restrictions are based on a scientific fire restriction matrix that is used across northwest Colorado. Upon reviewing the latest scientific data, Sheriff Brett Schroetlin recommended, and the Board of County Commissioners approved, the implementation of Stage Two Fire Restrictions.
NOT allowed:
- No open fires, including campfires, charcoal grills, or stove fires in campgrounds or at private homes.
Exception: Propane fire pits are allowed, if they can be turned off. - No smoking unless inside a vehicle or building, in a developed recreation site, or in a cleared 3-foot area with bare mineral soil. — Never throw smoking materials from a vehicle.
- No welding, acetylene torches, or other open-flame torch use.
- No use of any combustion engines without a working approved spark arrestor, including chainsaws.
- No incendiary devices, including explosives, tracer ammunition, exploding targets, or rockets.
Violations may result in a $1,000 fine per offense.
Allowed:
- Legal fireworks and permitted professional fireworks displays.
- Gas or liquid-fueled appliances with shut-off valves, including stoves, grills, lanterns, heaters, fire pits, fireplaces, and fire tables. Keep them at least 3 feet from flammable materials.
- Fires inside permanent enclosed buildings, including fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, and similar approved appliances.
